Working Together

Creative and technical work requires people to work on the same problem at the same time.

You need to be goal-oriented, responsive, communicative, and sensitive to the needs of the business, clients, and colleagues.

We work in project teams

We work in different teams, on different projects. Project teams have between 3 and 5 people, excluding the client, who may also have 1 to 3 people.

Collaborating is a Core Principle of Starfish

Collaboration is working together in a structured way. It is working with someone on the same project at roughly the same time.

Why do we need to collaborate

All projects have a technical, creative and business angle and those perspectives (and others) need to be in balance all the time.

It’s all about communication
People aren’t always watching over you and telling you what to do, so you need to be proactive, professional, and responsible.
How to collaborate?

You have to share ideas and work on things in small chunks, so that people can see what you are doing and give you feedback before going further.

Asking for help

When you are new, you are not going to know how to do things, so you need to keep asking those around you for help.

Working asynchronously

We work together back and forth, not exactly at the same time, but in quick succession, feeding off each other’s input.

We use visual planning and group chats to work help us work asynchronously.

The opposite of collaboration
The opposite of collaboration would be working in sequence where you do your part of the project to completion without input or anyone else working on the project with you at that time. Then you pass the work onto some else who does the same.
