Dev and Staging sites
A dev site is a copy of the website where development happens.
A staging site is a copy of the live site where we make fixes.
Dev and staging sites are hosted by Starfish.
Development Sites
Dev sites should be the only place where developers develop or prototype. They should not use their local PCs to develop.
Staging sites
We use staging sites for larger or continuous maintenance jobs – where working on the live could cause an important site to go down.
After the changes have been approved, we usually do the same changes on live, rather than backing up and copying everything across. Its safer.
Development and Staging subdomain naming
The format of a dev or staging site’s name is [project name].[main developer].[month and year].betterweb.work.
Dev and Staging sites should be invisible to Google
Dev and Staging websites are hidden from Google
This should be done by the hosting admin.
