Styles of website
There are 4 main styles of websites, but you can combine styles
Basic Website
Focus on doing it quickly, by boxy layout, little text. Keep it small.
Visual focused
Focus on doing the simple things well. Nice photos, consistent layout through visual planning
Content focused
A website that has quite a bit of content. It is pretty, but its main objective is to pass on specific details. There is “content planning” and “visual planning”.
Function focused
A website that has a complex system, such as an ecommerce website. They will have a very specific layout decided by the system, functional prototyping is the key.
The Heart of the Problem
Websites are mainly images and text placed in a layout. (Functionality must stick to a specific layout)
But which image, which text and which layout? The combinations are endless.
It is hard to know how to combine photos, text and layouts when you don’t know which photos, what text or layouts.
Which order?
- If you choose a nice layout, will you have the content and photos to fit inside?
- If you find nice photos, will they make sense and where will they be used.
- If you have content, where will it be placed and will people be able to understand it?
How to solve this problem
- Don’t get stuck on any one photo, content, or layout.
- Work on all areas at the same time.
