Hosting Tasks for Launch

Since hosting tasks take a while to complete, they should not be started just before launch.

Tasks may include:

Buying a domain name

Setting up hosting with Starfish or a 3rd party provider.

Buying an SSL Certificate.

Pointing the domain name to the hosting service.

If hosting on 3rd party

If we are to install, make sure client pays installation fee.

Get a technician to gain access ahead of time, since it can take time to get past the security checks.

New Sites: Set up a coming soon page with a form

If it’s a WordPress project and a new website, set up a plain “coming soon” page (on WordPress) so that the site can be easily launched when the time comes, and we know the emails are set up.

Existing Site Replacement: Be Careful!

If the client has an existing website, and it has backlinks (i.e., links from other websites to the client’s website, then maybe those links are important and need to be preserved). However, this is usually not the case.

If hosting with Starfish

Get a technician to set up the package details on A2 hosting using WHM.

Find out if the emails are hosted elsewhere

Emails can cause conflicts with hosting if they share the same domain name and are being hosted in different locations.

Find out who the domain name registrar is.

This is the company that keeps their domain name details. We may need to point the domain at the hosting.
